How to Formulate an Engaging Social Media Caption

Have you ever spent too much time thinking of what to say on social media and then only to find that no one is talking back, responding to what you're puttin' down. Trust me, I GET IT! It has taken me over a year and a half to figure out how to speak the language of my followers and to not second guess anything of what I have to share with the social media world.

After a lot of trial and error, there are three true ingredients that have in my experience started real genuine organic conversations with my followers and new!

In this article, I am sharing those three ingredients that you can apply to your captions today, that will get you real engagement from those who you potentially want to work with.

1. Start with an invitation (action is a good thing!)

If you don't invite people into the conversation, how can they respond? All too often, do I see people posting small or big captions that don't invite their followers to hear their insight, or respond in relation to the post, it's just dead. If there isn't any incentive for people to engage right away, chances are, they will scroll ahead.

Instagram only allows about 40 characters, and then you have to actually click on that post in order to read the rest.

If those 30-40 characters aren't captivating enough or there's no invitation, then there will be no action on your followers part. So what should you do, to grab their attention: ASK a question, Invite them to give you a heart, or tag a friend, or anything that invites them to take some sort of action! Chances are the real MVP's will respond.

2. Call to Action.

Ask people to take action at the very end. After every post, you should invite them to give their input about what you've shared, or to check out your latest IGTV video, stories, or even blog post. It should be a balance of "click the link in bio" and "send me a private message," and "have you ever felt this way..." or "tell me all your ways."

Always give your followers a way for them to tell you more about them, or you get to know them, and to give them the option to buy from you. When you don't, you've already made the decision for the.

3. Hashtags for Instagram

This is so important!!! It has taken me a very long time to figure out the hashtag game, and since then I have found that hashtags aren't some sort of funny millennial way to express yourself or to make a point, it's a way for new followers to discover you! Use hashtags that aren’t popular. You want to use hashtags that your dream customer would use to search for YOU. When you’re trying to create hashtag groups for your captions, put yourself in the shoes of your dream customers. What types of words or things would they search for, that would get them to find YOU!? This is the key to creating captions not only captivate you, but FIND AND attract new potential dream customers.

I hope these three ingredients helped you get an idea of how to captivate your followers and new ones in order to gain engagement and know who's following you and let those who are following, KNOW YOU!

You're building trust and relationships which allow people a little more insight as to why they should purchase from you OVER ANYONE else!!
